mission statement
aspiring rockstars have their work cut out for them–passing out flyers, setting up gigs, dedicating every waking moment to their band. what if you had a little help, you know, that extra push that makes your musical escapades just a tad bit easier.

passed out promotions is a promotional agency hailing from the washington d.c./baltimore area dedicated to promoting the national underground punk/emo/hardcore/alt. rock (or any label you choose to give it)scene. anything from passed out promotions compilation cd’s, flyers, stickers, buttons, internet exposure, booking gigs, passed out pr sponsored shows, radio opportunities, print publication, duct taping record executives to their comfy black-leather chair and forcing your music into their ears–needless to say, we do it all. all because we love new music.

So let’s be honest. Is Q and Not U amazing, or is Q and Not U amazing? Last time I checked they were, and the last time I checked was about 15 seconds ago when I decided to push play on their newest album, Power. While hardcore fans are stuck in their I-liked-them-before-they-were-cool mindset, Power is successfully competing for the spot as the best Q and Not U recording. The third full-length installment from Dischord Records stirred up hype, as many Q lovers were waiting for what genius musical concepts they would come up with next. No Kill No Beep Beep was great, abrasive post-punk, the refreshing indie we could all fall in love with, but while it was unique, it still did not express the wild artistic creativity that Power conveys. Different Damage was great too, slightly more on the chill factor, more stoner-esque, if you will. But Power…shit. More aggressive than Different Damage, but more refined than No Kill No Beep Beep. The band approached with more climax, more synth and bass-driven then before. The lyrics are tighter and reflect a more mature trio. It’s danceable, something I never thought I could say about Q and Not U. They are rarely classified as a “punk” band, but Power is more punk that ever before. There is a driving force behind, whether it is a steady beat or the up-beat melodies. Power did a fabulous job of bringing together all the enjoyable elements of underground music and packing it in one punch. Less indie to be indie and more great to be good. Dischord done good.
