mission statement
aspiring rockstars have their work cut out for them–passing out flyers, setting up gigs, dedicating every waking moment to their band. what if you had a little help, you know, that extra push that makes your musical escapades just a tad bit easier.

passed out promotions is a promotional agency hailing from the washington d.c./baltimore area dedicated to promoting the national underground punk/emo/hardcore/alt. rock (or any label you choose to give it)scene. anything from passed out promotions compilation cd’s, flyers, stickers, buttons, internet exposure, booking gigs, passed out pr sponsored shows, radio opportunities, print publication, duct taping record executives to their comfy black-leather chair and forcing your music into their ears–needless to say, we do it all. all because we love new music.

Kind of like what everyone wants to say, but no one really has the balls to actually come out and say, the Frederick, Maryland based The Hourglass Demo kicks every local band’s ass. Granted, everyone has their likes and dislikes, turn-ons and turn-offs, but I have yet to find someone who doesn't find THGD nothing short of fabulous. When we got a simple email from only one of the most esteemed local bands in our area, we were more than thrilled. Not just because their indie rock pulls influences from pioneers like Sunny Day Real Estate, and keeps fresh for the current times with similarities in bands like Cursive and Armor for Sleep. Not just because they’ve moved beyond the only two grange halls Frederick County has to offer and are booked at real venues with bigger and better bands. Not just because we happen to like their music. Because in a scene where success depends on how many fifteen-years-olds you see wearing your t-shirt, The Hourglass Demo doesn’t seem to need that (they still have the fanbase–trust me). The accredited musicianship along with a seemingly general love for their instruments already makes THGD a standout in the Passed Out PR local scene as well as the rest of the underground indie world, in which they will overcome.

I remember walking around the Francis Scott Key Mall with Jacqueline on a Passed Out PR business trip, and looking for victims in which we could shove flyers in their face. On our way out, we see some presumably punk-music-loving individuals, to which we approach with a wad of purple Passed Out PR flyers. As these kids (actually, they were older than us) looked at our flyers, they succeeded in making fun of every single one of our bands (this was before The Hourglass Demo joined). Then they asked us if we’d “ever heard of The Hourglass Demo, because that was an awesome band.” We couldn’t disagree.

With two years of experience as a band behind them, and an album released in 2003, expect big things. The End of Resistance EP is close aroud the corner, in which you can add to your THGD collection.
