mission statement
aspiring rockstars have their work cut out for them–passing out flyers, setting up gigs, dedicating every waking moment to their band. what if you had a little help, you know, that extra push that makes your musical escapades just a tad bit easier.

passed out promotions is a promotional agency hailing from the washington d.c./baltimore area dedicated to promoting the national underground punk/emo/hardcore/alt. rock (or any label you choose to give it)scene. anything from passed out promotions compilation cd’s, flyers, stickers, buttons, internet exposure, booking gigs, passed out pr sponsored shows, radio opportunities, print publication, duct taping record executives to their comfy black-leather chair and forcing your music into their ears–needless to say, we do it all. all because we love new music.

No point denying. Passed Out Promotions focuses on punk bands, or a version of the sort. And with the common trend being the screamo, melodic hardcore, emo pop-punk kind, we do (but gladly all in the same) contribute to that stereotype by bringing on bands that can be classified as such. But when it comes to Dissidence, one of the Passed Out PR veterans and their blazing version of punk rock, we’re not talking anything you’re gonna find in the latest emo zine. We’re talking real fucking punk rock here.

When we first heard these the five behind the Tennessee act, it was not like hearing something you could compare to half the other bands in the scene, but like being reinvented by punk rock once again. Dissidence is a reminder why you started listening to punk music in the first place; not because the girls were cute, but because it got you thinking and moving all at the same time. Lyrics hint slightly at political and social undertones, and a song isn’t spent whining over two-years-past high school memories or useless crushes. Oh yeah, and Dissidence music doesn’t need to fiddle in eight minute long love ballads. It’s short. It’s nostalgicly old school. And it just plain rocks.

Or as they call it “a unique, energized blend of old school and new school punk rock with melodic, technical guitar playing, vocal harmonizing, and solid, fast-paced drumming.” Precisely.

So while half of the Passed Out PR bands like to slack and occasionally email us back, Dissidence keeps an amazing ethic in the business, being both professional and cordial to us here (a perfect combo). We love press kits from Dissidence, because they come in packs of five and are fully loaded. It’s no surprise they have a great resume so far, with credits on various webzines and radio stations and a sponsorship under American Dream Clothing, we are dreading the email from Trey telling us how Dissidence is too big for Passed Out PR and no longer need our help.

We owe punk music everything. Both of us agree how much it has become a part of our lives, and how we would be stuck in our teeny-bopper phase if we didn’t fall into this gateway drug. But with the scene thriving in the mainstream, and all going stereotype crazy, it can be difficult to remember your punk rock roots. Dissidence keeps it close to home, and advances their unique blend to your needy ears with the true punk music that they are.
